PIANO HINGE ON CLAMSHELL – MAY 7, 2019
Aluminum piano hinges are used to connect the clamshell doors to the belly pan. The clamshell doors open to allow the wings to swing in or out of the belly of the Switchblade, and a piano hinge is a good light-weight hinge for this type of use.
One side of the hinge is already riveted to the aluminum belly pan, and Kevin Abraham is shown in the image above using a pneumatic (air power) rivet gun to install the rivets joining the second side of the hinge to the carbon clamshell door. There are over 50 rivets for each side.
