ADDING A WIND BREAK (FAIRING) – December 11, 2020

As we mentioned earlier, fairings are shields to smoothly guide air around an obstruction. In our revisions to the elevator control system in the tail, one portion of the control system had to drop down below the tail boom and run along the lower face to the body. For this, we created a fairing out of carbon fiber and are mounting it to the bottom of the boom. This image shows the fairing placed in the middle with the boom being bottom side up. The V-shaped uprights close in are the supporting structure for the small fixed verticals that get attached to the bottom of the boom. See how smooth the fairing form is, and that it goes to a knife-edge close to the camera, which is the rear end of the boom?
