FIRE PROTECTION INSTALLED – MAY 15, 2019
Our fire blanket from Sun Fire Defense (image above) arrived and was installed on the firewall between the engine bay and the cockpit. This material is used in making portable Fire Shelters for professional fire fighters, to help them to survive being overcome by a fast-moving forest fire. More than sufficient for fire protection of the bulkhead in front of the engine, this blanket also insulates the carbon fiber structure from heat and would lengthen the time that the heat from an engine fire could be withstood to allow a safe landing in that event. We are providing a foam fire extinguishing system for the prototype, just to be on the safe side of first flight.
