WINNING BY A NOSE – January 25, 2019
The fiberglass nose cone for the Switchblade is now nearly done. We decided to go to a fiberglass nose, as the carbon fiber body blocks radio signal. Flying vehicles communicate via radio, and we wanted to ensure that we could get radio signals out in all directions from the vehicle. We have one radio antenna buried in one of the ventral fins at the bottom of the tail.
There will be an additional antenna in the nose, and Ron and Brent Burch are shown in the image above working on the nose cone to make a more perfect fit with the rest of the body prior to final installation. We could have gone with just the one antenna in the rear, but we actually want to find out which location is best.
