UPDATE ON OUR FLAP ASSEMBLY – February 20, 2020

Samson Chief Builder Ron Burch is drilling out the alignment holes on 2 aluminum brackets. These will go on a mounting rail with the actuator, as part of the Switchblade flap assembly.

Our earlier design for the flap actuator turned out to be too strong! It had the force to bend the aluminum brackets and break the steel worm drive gear. (Well, we didn’t name the company Samson to imply weakness.) We didn’t actually need that much strength, though, so we are using an off-the-shelf actuator that has built-in limits of travel, similar to other high-end Experimental aircraft.
