The Switchblade flying sports car fly-by-wire rudder system was tested and passed earlier during endurance testing, but a tear down showed that there may be an issue with a shaft connection. We re-engineered that and tested that connection only while holding the rudder transmission and motors in a bench vise. You can see Electrical Tech Phillip Mikula (left) pulling on a lever arm using a scale to verify correct pull force, and Lead Engineer David Nobles watching the equipment to make sure it wouldn’t move during the very strong pulls required.
