PAINT – THE FINAL FRONTIER – July 16, 2018
In the above photo, Cascade Customs in Bend, Oregon is prepping and painting the Switchblade clamshell doors. They have painted many beautiful aircraft over the years, including a Red Bull race plane.
The Switchblade tail (above) was beautifully painted by RK Classic Restoration in Prineville, Oregon. They build and paint nationally recognized custom cars and trucks, and they did the light grey primer we’ve had on the Switchblade since July 2017. After evaluating the pros and cons of several paint options, we settled on a mat black primer. It has a cool carbon fiber look that looks quite impressive.
It was a race to the finish line to get the Switchblade painted in time to ship off to Oshkosh, Wisconsin for AirVenture – the world’s largest aviation celebration. Above, Cascade Customs is prepping the chassis before they start spraying.
We were all super excited to see the prototype roll out of the Cascade Customs paint booth, looking awesome! It was really a big change to have the entire body this mat black color, instead of the light grey front section and the bare carbon fiber rear section.
