THE PROPELLER GOES HERE – August 29, 2019
The gold colored assembly shown on the right side of the image above holds the propeller bearings. These take the tremendous forces developed by a swiftly spinning propeller. If you have ever held a bicycle wheel that is spinning rapidly, and tried to move it, you can get a sense of what the bearing must handle.
The bearing and gold housing is held by the steel tube frame in the rear of the vehicle, behind the engine. The prop needs to be very precisely located and held there, as the prop clearance to the duct it turns in is only 1/8″. The bolts on the left side of the image are for holding the prop hub to the bearing shaft. The grey tubing is part of the rear tube frame and is made from chrome molly steel.
