SWITCHBLADE UPDATE 3 JUNE, 2013

June 4, 2013

I mentioned our fabricating a steering box for the front of the vehicle. This is pictured below so you can see what it looks like. This is a prototype part, and as we move into production it will assume more of an appearance of a manufactured part. Our testing on the full-scale prototype will provide us with the real-world validation needed to move from prototype to production part.

Another image shows the bent tubing that will form the front suspension leading arm, and will connect the wheel to the torsion suspension. This piece is made from 4130 steel, which is a tougher steel often used in racing suspension components. It is resistant to corrosion, and has good strength-to-weight properties. This piece will be cut to length, bored for the torsion connection, and have a plate welded to it to attach the spindle mount to.

The torsion unit is being fabricated, as is the spindle mount. A custom front wheel is being drawn for the manufacturer, and then we will be nearly complete on the suspension components. The rear suspension is fabricated except for the locating arms and shock mount.
