Say goodbye to the $100 Burger!

March 21, 2016

Many of you know about the reality TV show “Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives” in which people go to great lengths to find the best burger, the best pizza, or the best tacos.  You choose your poison!

Well, aviation has it’s own version and it’s called the $100 Burger.  General aviation aircraft owners have long been in search of the best burgers (or pancakes if it’s breakfast time) that can be found at airport restaurants. Pilots plan their outing, which generally involves an hour or so flight there (at sunrise for the early birds), an hour or so lunch (or breakfast), and a relaxed cruise back to home base (at sunset if you’re flying late in the day.)  It’s a fun thing to do with friends and family. While the food itself is usually very reasonably priced at these airport restaurants, because you may end up spending $100 in aviation fuel just to fly there and back, the meal is humorously referred to as “the $100 Burger”.

With the advent of flying cars, you are no longer limited to eateries at airports!  There might be that special place a few miles from the airport that will make that $100 Burger even more succulent! (And maybe you want to expand your horizons or are in the mood for something completely different.) In the meantime though, here are some recommended venues for that $100 Burger….

Buzz Inn Steak House, Harvey Field in Snohomish, Washington

The Airport Restaurant in Lakeland, Florida

Wings Grill at the Auburn, California Airport

Inn at the Cliff at the St. George, Utah Airport

The Airport Restaurant at the Sedona Arizona Airport
