“Flying sports car” to flight test Is the realization of future air mobility near?

It can run at speeds of over 200km/h, and even fly in the sky. Such a sports car type “flying car” has obtained permission for flight tests from the American Aviation Administration. Let’s introduce the world’s first “three-wheeled flying sports car,” which has already been reserved by more than 2,000 people.

14 years in development, compact design

This flying sports car “Switchblade” is being developed by Samsung Sky based in Oregon, USA. After 14 years of development, we finally received flight test permission from the US Civil Aviation Administration the other day, and we are finally moving on to the actual flight test stage.

The biggest feature of Switchblade is that it is a three-wheeled sports car type. It is a futuristic design that combines a helicopter and a sports car. The size is 5.1 meters in length, 1.8 meters in width, and 1.5 meters in height, which is slightly longer than a general automobile. However, if you extend the tail and become a flight style, you will be able to fly in the sky as it is.

Top speed in drive mode is 125 mph (201 km/h). It takes off at 88 mph (142 km/h) and travels at 200 mph (322 km/h) during flight. If the 113L fuel tank is full, it can fly 724km.

The car is equipped with a sound system and digital display, as well as safety equipment such as a parachute. With this, you can run on the road and fly in the sky as if you were in your own car. It’s the future of air mobility.

51% of the car body is assembled by yourself

The Switchblade is also unique in that it is not delivered complete and 51% of the car is assembled by the buyer in a DIY style. DIY usually takes about 3 to 6 weeks, but you can use the “Builder Assist Program” to help with assembly. Depending on your ingenuity, you can get the latest flying sports car while minimizing the cost.

The purchase price you are interested in is $170,000 (about 24 million yen), including the “Builder Assist Program” worth $20,000 (about 2.85 million yen). Some models have even been upgraded.

It’s still a long way from when this Switchblade will actually be available for general sale. However, 2,100 people in the US and 52 countries around the world have already booked. Switchblade drive flight requires both a driver’s license and a pilot’s license, but it seems that about 60% of those who have made a reservation do not have a pilot’s license yet.

If you want to get a flying car like this in the future, you might want to consider getting a pilot’s license.
