To me the Samson Switchblade will get me the flying car of my dreams, eliminate many of the downsides of weather, and reduce costs associated with private pilot/airplane ownership.
I have always been interested in flying cars from my first time seeing them on the ‘Jetson’s’ cartoon and in Popular Mechanics, to today. It isn’t until now that I think we are at the point of really seeing the flying car become a reality. The Switchblade is going to be available and at a cost that will make it accessible to General Aviation.
Flying was a dream since I was a child and my dad always encouraged me to learn to fly. It took me retiring to finally have both the time and the means to learn to fly. Once I became a private pilot I really began to understand the limitations of weather on flying, so I got my instrument rating thinking that would solve the weather issue. Being instrument rated did solve some of weather issues but it didn’t fix all of them. Then I bought a plane and learned a whole lot more about flying in general. To me the Samson Switchblade will get me the flying car of my dreams, eliminate many of the downsides of weather, and reduce costs associated with private pilot/airplane ownership.
Here is what I think the Switchblade will do to make flying easier and more fun for me: No more hanger fees since it will be parked in my garage. I don’t leave my car out in the weather at the airport. If I don’t want to fly in bad weather I just drive or drive past it and then hit the skies. Getting a rental car at the destination airport is not an issue or no one has to come pick me up; I just press a button and drive away. I will not have to transfer my bags multiple times. Less cost per fill-up; unleaded gas is much cheaper that 100LL. Finally, I own the flying car of my dreams.
Sam Bousfield and the Samson Sky team have done an outstanding job in developing the Switchblade. The engineering is top notch and safety is foremost in everything they do. The concept of protecting the wing and tail while driving is one innovation that particularly impressed me. I am really looking forward to seeing the Switchblade hit the skies and certainly when it will be me behind the controls.
