Once he had soloed, Anthony started searching online for planes that were unique, innovative and futuristic…He leapt at the chance to become an early investor and a Switchblade Ambassador in Australia.

While Elizabeth was content conducting her childhood aeronautical experiments jumping from a fence post with the beach umbrella, Anthony was already taking it to the next level by running along and leaping off the garage roof, clutching a thin square of plywood as makeshift wings.

Over the years Anthony flew anything and everything that could reliably leave the ground. He took flights in gyrocopters, gliders, small ultra-light planes, paragliders, helicopters and hot-air balloons. If it would fly, he was there. After leaving school he studied Industrial Design and worked in industry making artificial limbs. He won an award for the concept car he designed for a competition conducted by GMH. Anthony started his first business in his mid-twenties, then ventured into a partnership breeding livestock on a rural property in New South Wales. Finally, he built a retail whole-food business which he ran in a country town for twenty-nine years. During this time he started his private pilot’s licence.

Once he had soloed, Anthony started searching online for planes that were unique, innovative and futuristic. One day he came across a YouTube about flying cars. This really caught his attention and he immediately recognised the Switchblade as a game changer. He realised that a flying car could significantly change the way his more remote customers did their shopping and business; many of them travelling all day to reach their regional centre, a second day doing shopping and appointments and a third travelling home again – a flying car could change this into a one-day excursion.

One of the most appealing aspects for Anthony is that he can be involved in building his own plane, supervised and guided in the factory, enabling him to understand how everything works with the added bonus of being able to enjoy and maintain his own aircraft. He emailed Samson Sky and expressed his interest. He leapt at the chance to become an early investor and a Switchblade Ambassador in Australia. This means he will be flying his Switchblade around the country, introducing it to people of all walks of life, sharing his enthusiasm and vision for managing some of the vast, isolated distances in Australia.

Elizabeth, meanwhile, became an educator and found her love of travel by working in Indonesia, Germany, China and Canada, as well as many years in Australia. Both now semi-“retired” (what a joke) Anthony is busy with a range of business and personal interests, while Elizabeth is writing parenting books and courses while still teaching at a local school. She can’t wait for Anthony to start flying her around the country-side for book tours, parent and teacher workshops and visiting the grandchildren.

Both are eagerly following the progress of the Switchblade project, as it moves through the construction phases through to successful test flights. They are looking forward to the time they come to the factory to build their own Switchblade – actually, Anthony will build, Elizabeth will only watch… but she does have every intention of completing her private pilot’s licence once they have taken possession of their very own Switchblade.
