Our new custom gearset was installed in the prop gear reduction unit (takes engine speed and reduces it down to what the propeller can use), and we have been running the system for hours to make sure the new gears are happy in the gearcase. Part of this was to re-tune the engine using a laptop connected to the engine computer, which is happening in this image.
Samson Engineer Tanner Vaughn is in the cockpit, with expert tuning consultant Nils Castillo guiding the process remotely. With the new gears and engine tune we saw a 60% increase in thrust and a 25% increase in acceleration! Not a bad outcome!
