Actuators move things, and the flaps are the movable wing parts just next to the body. The flaps are moved from an upward position to a downward position for take-off and landing, and both left and right flaps have to operate the same or there could be trouble for the pilot. In our case, we decided to create an electro-hydraulic flap system commanded by an electric switch for the pilot to use to raise or lower flaps, and an electric motor is used to push or pull on the hydraulic cylinders in the system to raise and lower both flaps the same amount. Here Sean is shown installing the co-pilot side flap cylinder at the wing root.
