CHECKING AIR FLOW EFFICIENCY IN THE DUCT – October 20, 2022

October 20, 2022

In our search for some additional acceleration that would help us test at a nearby airport rather than longer runways much further away, we decided to test the air flow in the duct. Our team is using the tried-and-true method of placing yarn tufts, evenly spaced, on the surface. We videoed the duct from several angles while running the prop, to evaluate the air flow in this critical location. We had only minor disturbances of the yarn tufts, and those smoothed out before the air flow reached the prop. So we validated that and checked off another box. (This photo was taken while the prop was not spinning and also the cone that covers the propeller hub was not on.)
