Legislation paving the way for flying cars in the US
Legislative bodies across the US are working to ensure that roadable aircraft can be easily registered and licensed in all 50 states. Two US companies (Samson Sky and Alef), and two European companies (Pal-V and Klein), are projected to start production in 2025.
In recent years, the concept of roadable aircraft, often referred to as flying cars, has captured the imagination of innovators and enthusiasts alike.
As this revolutionary mode of transportation inches closer to reality we take a look at the efforts underway to register and license roadable aircraft in the US.
The “Jetson Bill” and Beyond
The groundwork for standardized regulations governing roadable aircraft was laid with the passage of the groundbreaking “Jetson Bill” in New Hampshire in 2020.
Spearheaded by industry stakeholders including Samson Sky, this legislation facilitated the state registration of roadable aircraft, setting a precedent for future legislative initiatives nationwide.
Under the Jetson Bill, roadable aircraft are subject to the same registration and operational requirements as conventional vehicles when operating on state roads and highways.
Building upon the success of the Jetson Bill, Samson Sky has emerged as a driving force behind efforts to enact similar legislation in other states.
Collaborating with lawmakers across the country, the company is actively involved in drafting bills aimed at streamlining the integration of roadable aircraft into existing transportation frameworks.
With projected introductions into committee in 2024, these initiatives signify a concerted effort to embrace aerospace innovation and foster economic growth.

The Switchblade
At the forefront of this burgeoning industry is Samson Sky’s innovative Switchblade—a flying sports car equipped with a hybrid electric system.
Unlike traditional aircraft reliant on specialized aviation fuel, the Switchblade’s hybrid technology allows owners to refuel with unleaded auto gas, offering unprecedented convenience and accessibility.
With a range of up to 500 miles on a single tank, the Switchblade embodies the marriage of cutting-edge technology and practical utility.
Integration into Daily Life
One of the most compelling aspects of roadable aircraft is their streamlined transition between driving and flying modes.
Imagine departing from your garage in a street-legal Switchblade, driving to a nearby airport, and effortlessly transforming your vehicle for flight.
Whether commuting to work or embarking on a weekend getaway, roadable aircraft promise to revolutionize the concept of personal transportation, potentially offering unparalleled flexibility and freedom.
