SAMSON V4 ENGINE POWER GRAPH FROM DYNO – July 2, 2020

Loyning’s Engine Services, Portland, Oregon.

We tuned differently this time, as we can’t use more than 200 hp through the propeller. We tuned the Samson V4 engine to produce 200 hp with the least amount of turbo boost (pressure) possible. This is to reduce wear on the engine so it will last longer during aircraft use.

The change in fuel injectors, cam shaft (spinning shaft that opens and closes the valves), and air intake added up to less turbo boost required, so we are only using about 8 psi of boost. Earlier we were using 13 psi of boost, so this is a significant reduction! We should be able to maintain 200 hp above 16,000′, and will find out our real ‘ceiling’ for this aircraft during flight testing coming soon.
