Samson Sky CEO Discusses Switchblade Flying Car, Air Mobility

Samson said the car requires no new technology for production, and the first of three production test vehicles are under construction

Samson Sky CEO Sam Bousfield, designer of the Switchblade flying sports car, spoke at the 19th annual Electric Aircraft Symposium at the University of Wisconsin in Oshkosh. The event focused on future air mobility.

Bousfield shared how the Switchblade flying sports car supports regional travel for 250 to 500-mile trips. “Statistics show there are 21 million regional travelers in the U.S. alone,” Bousfield said. He outlined several advantages, including highway capability, high performance on the ground and in the air, and a fully enclosed design for driving mode that allows standard insurance coverage.

He emphasized that the car requires no new technology for production. The first of three production test vehicles are under construction. Its pricing aims to make regional air mobility accessible.

The symposium gathered over 40 panelists, including Joby Aviation, Wisk Aero, and Bye Aerospace, who discussed safe and sustainable development in Advanced Air Mobility (AAM).

Bousfield joined the Regional Air Mobility panel alongside David Copeland of Bristell Aircraft and Drew McEwen of AURA AERO. A new regulatory framework from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and President Trump’s Executive Order on flying cars are driving AAM’s rapid expansion.

The Switchblade accommodates two passengers and luggage. Owners can park it in their garage, drive to a local airport, deploy the wings and tail, and take off. It features a 450-mile range on premium auto gas and a cruise speed of 160 mph.
