Frank Hendricks –

Steinway piano tuner, musician, ‘motorhead’, pilot

Who knows, maybe the Switchblade will become the Steinway of Experimental Aircraft. I wouldn’t be surprised.

I came on board early as a Switchblade Owner and have been able to visit the Samson hangar quite a few times over the last few years. It’s great to see the progress and how well everything is coming together!

Recently, as I told Sam and Martha Bousfield, I really came to realize something about the Switchblade – something I hadn’t quite seen in this light before. It has to do with the quality and the price. My profession has been tuning Steinway pianos for concert pianists and Steinway stores. (And I will definitely be flying and driving my Switchblade to my private clients.)

During the peak of my career, before I’d had the opportunity to tour the Steinway factory, I used to wonder how they could charge so darn much for their pianos. But after touring their factory 4 times over the years, and seeing the extensive and impressive work that goes into each piano, my question became, ‘How can they charge so little for these pianos?’

It’s the same now for the Switchblade, since I’ve seen firsthand what has gone into developing and building the first prototype for this amazing vehicle. How can Samson afford to charge so little for them? Their estimated price of $140k for the full package, (including the Samson Builder Assist program) is an incredible value.

Who knows, maybe the Switchblade will become the Steinway of Experimental Aircraft. I wouldn’t be surprised.
